Every kind, one call
Patterson is a small town between two better-served ones, with a quiet station, a ski hill that fills a lot for four months a year, and no car dealership at all.
The station
Patterson is the northernmost Metro-North station in Putnam County, and the first beyond the electrified section of the Harlem Line. It recorded 110 weekday riders in 2018, one of the smaller counts on the line, with around 200 parking spaces.
Small, but the lot exists and cars sit in it all day.
The thing worth knowing is what’s around it, which is not much. Brewster and Southeast are about eight miles south with far more service, more parking and more nearby. At Patterson, after the evening train, it’s you and the lot.
Thunder Ridge
Thunder Ridge Ski Area on Birch Hill Road runs 22 trails on three chairlifts, and for the winter months it’s the town’s biggest parking generator by a distance.
Ski-area lockouts have a character of their own. It’s cold — properly cold, which is exactly when a marginal fob battery gives up. Everyone is leaving at once at the end of the day. And a key that went into a jacket pocket for six hours on a mountain has had every opportunity to fall out on a lift.
For eight months of the year that lot is empty. For four it’s the busiest place in town.

No dealer here
Patterson has no franchised new-car dealership. There’s a used-car lot, but for a franchised store of any make the nearest are in Brewster, roughly eight miles south — Honda, Ford and Subaru on Route 22.
Eight miles is a short drive in a working car. In one that won’t start, it’s a tow.
That’s the whole reason a mobile locksmith matters more in a town like this than in one with a dealer strip. Our comparison of the options covers what each can actually do.

Frequently asked questions
Do you come out to Patterson?
Yes. It’s inside our coverage, up the NY-22 corridor past Brewster.
Is there a dealer in Patterson?
No franchised new-car dealer. The nearest are in Brewster, about eight miles south — Honda, Ford and Subaru on Route 22.
I’m at Thunder Ridge and my fob won’t work.
Cold is the usual culprit. Try the battery first — see our key fob battery guide. If a fresh one doesn’t fix it, the fob or the car is the problem.
How busy is Patterson station?
Quiet — around 110 weekday riders, one of the smaller stops on the Harlem Line. Brewster and Southeast, eight miles south, are far busier.
What if I’ve lost every key?
That’s a bigger job than a spare and depends on your make and year. See our key fob replacement guide.
